| A. Getting Started |
| Items You Will Need: |
- Drill / Drill Bit / Screwdriver / Appropriate Screws / Pencil / Awl
- For Outside Mounting, you will also need a steel measuring tape / level
- Screws and Fasteners - The screws you will need will depend upon the surface for the installation.
- Solid wood or wood studs - Install anchors first. Toggle or molly bolts, or Easy Anchors.
- Masonry surfaces - Use #8 Tapcon screws.
- Tile - Install into plugs or anchors. Consult with your hardware store.
- Metal - Use #8 sheet metal screws.
- Note: Screws should extend 3/4'' into the surface. Since you will be inserting the screws through a 3/4'' board, the screw should be 1-1/2'' long. For wood studs under sheets of rock or plaster, use 2'' screws.
| B. INSIDE MOUNT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS |
- Open the carton and carefully remove the shade. The shade is packed in the 'Up' position. Do not allow the shade to release to the lowered position at this time. The shade is mounted on a 3/4'' board. You will install in by inserting screws up through the board, and then into the surface at the top of the window frame.
- On the underside of the mounting board, mark the location for the screws you will use. Locate the screw in the middle of the board, about 3'' in from each end. For shades up to 42'' wide, use two screws. For wider shades, use one screw for every 18'' of width.
- Carefully drill the screw pilot holes into the mounting board.
- Place the shade into the top of the window frame. The front of the shade should align with the front surface of the window frame. Use the Awl to push through the drilled holes and mark the surface where the screws will go.
- Drill pilot holes for the screw insertion into the top of the window frame. Install any anchors you may need.
- Start the screws through the shade board. Hold the board in the position at the top of the frame, and align the screws with the holes in the frame. Finish screwing the board to the top of the frame.
- Lower the shade and dress the folds or pleats in place.
- Install the Cord Cleat Device included with your shade.
- Choose a location that aligns with the cord, and a height that will be safe for children. Drill 1/16" pilot holes and attach the cord cleat to the wall using the two color-matched screws provided. If you do not reach solid backing, use secure fasteners.
| C. OUTSIDE MOUNT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS |
- Open the carton and carefully remove the shade. It is packed in the 'Up' position. Do not allow it to release to the lowered position at this time.
- The shade is mounted on a 3/4'' thick board. You will install it by attaching brackets to the board, and then screwing the brackets to the wall.
- Hold the shade over the window opening. For narrow shades, you will need two brackets to support the board. On wider shades, you may need more. Always use all of the brackets included with the shade. Check to be sure that there is enough room on the wall for the mounting brackets. Once you have done this, set the shade down.
- On the inside surface of the mounting board, you will now install the brackets. Set these in about 3'' from each end, with the back 'leg' of the bracket even with the back of the board. Mark the location of the screw holes. Carefully drill the pilot hole for each screw. Then screw the brackets to the mounting board. Do the same with any extra brackets, locating them so that there is an even amount of space between all of the brackets.
- Hold the treatment with the brackets in place over the window opening. Center it on the opening. With a level, make sure the treatment is level. Mark the locations for the screw holes in the brackets.
- Drill holes into the walls for the screw insertion, install any anchors needed. Use two screws per bracket.
- Hold the treatment in place, and install the screws through the brackets and into the wall/anchors.
| Child Safety |
| Hanging cord or chain is a safety hazard for children or pets. To prevent possible strangulation, always wrap excess cord around a cord cleat. |
