EASYLIFT HONEYCOMB SHADES INSTALLATION GUIDE
A. Getting Started
The Parts: Before getting started, please remove and identify the following parts required for the installation of your shades:
B. The Tools
To install your Great Windows Easylift Honeycomb Shades, you will need a few basic tools:
  • Phillips head screwdriver* or
  • 1/4" nut Driver*
*Power screwdriver or power drill with a #2 Phillips attachment or 1/4" nut driver attachment may be used.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Screws provided are for installation into wooden frames only. For metal surfaces, use suitable sheet metal screws and pre-drill holes. For concrete, stone, brick, or tile, use a carbide drill and appropriate anchors and screws. For wallboard or plaster, use hollow wall anchors and/or longer screws to reach framing or stud. In all cases, follow the fastener manufacturer's recommendations.
C. Sorting Your Shades
Inside the headrail of your Great Windows EasyLift Honeycomb Shades, there is a sorting label. This appears as seen at right:

On this label, you will recognize:

  • Order size of the shade
  • Room location (If not present, info not given at time of order)
  • Whether the shade was ordered for inside mount (IB) or Outside mount (OB)

D. Bracket Spacing
Two installation brackets are positioned on the mounting surface so that their centerlines will be 2 1/4" in from the ends of the shade. If more than two brackets are required, follow instructions below.

Measure and mark all bracket centerlines. Note: For optional swivel brackets, position the holes (for mounting screws) 3" in from the ends of the shade.

shade width number of
brackets
To 31" 2
31" to 79" 3
79" to 127" 4
127" to 174" 5
E. Bracket Installation
Inside Mount
  1. To inside mount a Continuous Cord Loop shade, attach the tops of the installation brackets to the top sill of the window opening. To attach the brackets, the flat surface of the sill must be at least 1-1/4" deep. To fully recess the shade, the flat surface must be at least 2" deep. Add to these the mininum depths the dimension of any obstruction to shade movement, such as a window crank or handle.

  2. Two screws are used to attach each bracket. Mount the brackets at the locations you marked, with their front edges aligned.
Outside Mount
Mount the ends of the installation brackets on a flat vertical surface 1" high. Two screws are used to attach each bracket. Mount the brackets at the locations you marked. Before tightening the screws, check to be sure the tops of the installation brackets are perfectly horizontal and aligned at the same height.

F. Installing Spacer Blocks (optional)
Spacer blocks are used to project the installation brackets away from the mounting surface when additional shade clearance is needed. Spacer blocks are usually used when the shade is mounted above the trim. Each spacer block increases clearance by 1/2"; use a maximum of three per installation bracket.
  1. Check that your mounting screws are long enough to securely attach the installation bracket and the spacer blocks. The solid side of the blocks should face the mounting surface.

  2. As with all outside mount installations, make sure the tops of the installation brackets are perfectly horizontal and aligned at the same height.
G. Installing Extension Brackets (optional)
Extension brackets can project the installation brackets up to 2-1/2" away from the mounting surface.
  1. Position the brackets at the locations you marked and use two screws to attach them. Be sure the tops of the extension brackets are perfectly horizontal and aligned at the same height.

  2. Connect the installation brackets with the machine screws and speed nuts which are included with each extension bracket. Be sure to use the same holes on all the extension brackets, so that each installation bracket projects the same distance from the mounting surface.

  3. Indentations are cast into the extension brackets between the holes. Before mounting an extension bracket, any unneeded length may be cut off at one of the indentations.
H. Mounting the Headrail
  1. Unwind the cord from around the shade assembly and let it hang. With the front of the shade facing you, slip the headrail into the installation brackets.
  2. First, insert the back lip on the bottom of the headrail into the bottom groove on the brackets, making sure no fabric gets trapped between the headrail and the bracket. Then push on the rail until the top groove snaps into place, as shown.
I. Operating Your Honeycomb Easy Lift Shades
Lower the shade by pulling on one side of the cord loop, and raise it by pulling on the other side. After lowering the shade all the way, the shade will raise if you continue to pull the cord in the same direction.

J. Shade Adjustment
During the continuous cord loop fabrication process, the bottom rail is levelled and the shade drop is set to the height specified on your order. Check these adjustments by lowering the bottom rail to its lowest point. In the rare event you need to make a change, remove one or more "buckles" from the bottom rail by pulling on the end of the continuous cord loop tape as you lift up the rail slightly. The buckle will come out of a small plastic pocket. The necessary adjustments are made by moving the buckle up or down the tape to change its working length. Important note: Be careful, once the buckle is removed, not to put any twists into the tape while making the adjustment.
  1. To move the buckle, unthread one loop of the tape by pulling it out of the top slot. The buckle will then slide easily up or down the tape.
  2. After making the adjustment, thread the tape back through the top slot to lock it into position.
  3. Before inserting the buckle back into its pocket, pull the end of the tape over the top of the buckle and down.
  4. Check your adjustment by making sure the shade stacks evenly when raised to the top. Then trim the end of the tape, if desired.
K. Installing Hold Down Bracket (optional)
  1. With the shade at its full drop, place the pins on the hold down brackets into the holes in the bottom rail end caps and mark where to drill the mounting hole locations.
  2. Attach the hold down brackets with one screw through the side holes or two screws through the end holes. Be sure both bracket pins are aligned and level.

Child Safety
At Great Windows child safety is first. All of our products are fitted with the highest quality components that provide the most complete safety measures in the industry. Our Honeycomb Shades for example, have a cord stop that holds together the multiple cords inside the stop mechanism. This allows for a single nylon cord to protrude from the bottom of the cord stop. This prevents loops from forming which could be hazardous. Cord cleats are also available upon request.
Cleaning and Care
Because the Honeycomb fabric is anti-static (resists dust and stains), it requires very little cleaning. Dusting with a feather duster or lightly vacuuming with a brush attachment is all that is needed in most cases. For a more thorough cleaning, the entire shade assembly may be gently wiped with a soft damp cloth using lukewarm, purified or distilled water. Take special care when handling blackout fabrics to avoid creasing, and do not immerse in water.
For a more thorough cleaning, the fabric and bottom rail - but not the headrail - may be immersed in lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Caution: Blackout fabrics should not be immersed in water. Professional ultrasonic cleaning is not recommended for Continuous Cord fabric shades.
